Print Out

Susan Pratt adopted Printout
(October 2007)

I must like Fabio-type horses.  Of all the horses I have seen at the racetrack as a volunteer with FFI, and of all the horses that have come through the FFI rehabilitation program, none have made me double-take like Printout.  When  Printout was donated to us off the track, he had a broad chest, a  thick  neck, a well-muscled  body…and a fractured leg.  With  guarded interest, I was  involved  in Printout’s  rehabilitation and watched as his personality won him many admirers at the barn.  When  we first rode him after his recovery,    it  was  a  big  surprise that this  record-holding racehorse  was so gentle and steady under  saddle.  Well,   Printout is not so Fabio now that he is not longer racing.   I  think  he’s more  like Peyton  Manning…lean, athletic,  generous, funny  (if  not  sometimes  goofy)   and  totally devoted to the job…of being my horse.

If you have adopted a Friends of Ferdinand horse or have purchased an OTTB through our track listings, please send us your success stories!  Your accomplishments inspire others to give an ex-racer  a second chance!

There is something about this sometimes aloof and predictably unpredictable mare that makes me smile.  It must be the fact that we are both redheads.  When she found her way into my life, she did not want to be touched.  Now she greets me at her stall door every morning and allows me to scratch her ears.  For now, this is enough.  When we are ready, we will ride.

Ghazi Rose

Sara Busbice adopted Ghazi Rose and Sunny Cielo (CANTER-OH)
  (September 2006)

Sunny Diamond
Bob Worland adopted Sunny Diamond
(September 2006)

<-- First she was a successful racehorse, then she became a broodmare.  Sunny Diamond's last career is being my first horse.  Everyday I see her I comment on her power and her beauty.  I struggle putting how I feel about this horse into words.  She embodies everything that is good and bad about racing.  She was once unwanted, to me Diamond is a gift.

I trailered up & rode Hero today at the stable nearby. He did absolutely fantastic! I walked him about and gave him a good look around, he wasn't phased by anything. He did think the ducks were a bit odd (it was so cute!), and most of all looking at himself in the long, large arena mirrors he found very pleasing. I wasn't at all surprised that we had an even better ride than before despite the unfamiliar surroundings, and I even cantered him several rounds in the arena. He was a perfect gentlemen. We walked in the outdoor arena as well, I'm positive we'll be working out there soon and then on to some trails :)
